Our People
Board of Trustees
Nazeem Muhajarine, President
Nazeem grew up in a Muslim family of Malay ethnicity in Sri Lanka. He has lived in Saskatoon since 1990. As a Professor of Community Health and Epidemiology at the University of Saskatchewan, he is involved in many population health projects, including a large project on reproductive health and rights in Mozambique. He and his partner, Kathryn Green, became Unitarians in the early 90s. Nazeem’s previous Unitarian roles include board member, Vice President and President, and Greeter.
Nazeem loves cooking, travelling, spin class, and kayaking. He and Kathryn live in Nutana. Their grown children, Hannah and Adrian, have left Saskatoon, but their cat, Tilda, still lives at home.
Pam Fichtner, Vice President and Human Resources Portfolio
Pam, her partner, Dale Jack, and their two kids, Rowan and Siobhan, first became involved with the Saskatoon Unitarians about 15 years ago. Pam has served on the Sunday Service and Lay Chaplaincy committees and has been a Lay Chaplain and youth group contact person. She enjoys creating and leading Sunday services and is currently leads the Earth-Based Spirituality team.
Pam is a Registered Massage Therapist, specializing in breast health education, and a yoga teacher. In her free time, she enjoys reading, writing, dancing, being active and creative, along with spending time with family and friends. She lives in Buena Vista, with Dale, Siobhan, and their dog, Ralph.
Ken Crush, Treasurer and Finance Portfolio
Ken and his wife, Patty, joined the Unitarian congregation in the mid-90s. Ken has served in many roles, including President of the Board and Lay Chaplain. Ken is a longtime educator and administrator. After retiring, he served on the Prairie Spirit school board for more than 14 years. He is currently working to support sustainable watersheds, as a board member of the North Saskatchewan River Basin Council.
Ken and Patty recently moved into Saskatoon after many years on a farm in Langham, where Ken was well known for his team of draft horses. They have two children and six grandchildren.
Sage Baxter, Secretary
Sage (Karen) Baxter has been a member of Saskatoon Unitarians for over ten years but has been a Unitarian for much longer. Over the course of her career, she has held many positions, including artist, art restorationist, and office administrator. She is now retired and loves to crochet and visit with friends. She and her husband, Glen, recently celebrated their 35th wedding anniversary.
Sage appreciates being able to connect with Saskatoon Unitarians virtually. As our Online Experience Coordinator, she works to help others who attend online feel part of our community.
Monica Kreiter, Member at Large and Property Portfolio
Monica discovered the Saskatoon Unitarians in 2015 when her daughter was married by our Lay Chaplain. She found that Unitarianism offered a different approach to finding meaning in her life than the faith communities she had been part of growing up. Having experienced a close-knit work community with a common purpose of serving others, Monica appreciates these qualities in the Saskatoon Unitarians. In addition to serving on the board, Monica leads our new Widening the Circle team.
Monica and her husband have a home in west central Saskatchewan, but they also enjoy time in Saskatoon with their adult children and their partners.
Doug Daniels, Member at Large and Congregational Health portfolio
Doug has been a member of the Saskatoon Unitarians since 2009. He has served on many committees, including Property, Refugee Sponsorship, Sunday Services, and Social Action. He has served two previous terms on the SU Board and has led innumerable Sunday services.
Doug has retired with his wife, Betty, and cat, Diesel, on their farm near Cochin, where they have large and bountiful vegetable and flower gardens. He is currently a member of the Green Sanctuary team. He has just stepped down from the Board of the SES Solar Co-op and is pleased to be on the SU Board again.
Staff
Krisztina Marki, Administrator
Krisztina started working as our part-time administrator in the spring of 2024. She was drawn to the Saskatoon Unitarians because of her passion for supporting communities. Before moving with her family to Saskatoon from Serbia, she worked with Hungarian minorities for over ten years, and she is happy to be able to continue helping others here.
Krisztina is also a yoga mentor who teaches a variety of classes, from yoga in the park to caregiver and kid yoga, and bunny yoga. Besides yoga, her interests include Zen meditation, enjoying the great outdoors, and meeting new people.
Krisztina is responsible for bookkeeping, communications, building use, and general administration. Her office hours are 10 to 5, Tuesday and Wednesday. Contact her by email at office.ucs@gmail.com or phone 306-653-2402.
Joanne Fisher, Groundskeeper
Joanne is dedicated to helping families heal—body, mind, and spirit—focusing on preventing issues through her work with babies, both in and out of the womb. She specializes in fertility, pregnancy, birth work, infant sleep education, and conscious parenting through BodyTalk therapy.
With a deep love for the outdoors and gardening, she found a natural fit in supporting the Saskatoon Unitarians as the groundskeeper, which allows her to spend more time outside. Joanne is raising her family in the Buena Vista neighbourhood and enjoys racing BMX in her spare time.
