Rev. Fulgence Ndagijimana is an ordained Unitarian Minister from Burundi (in the central part of Africa). He discovered the liberating Unitarian faith when he was going through a time of doubt and restlessness as a young Dominican brother on his way to priesthood.
He went on to found a Unitarian church in Bujumbura Burundi and became its ordained minister in 2011. The Unitarian church of Bujumbura plays an important role in the lives of its members and is their source of spiritual inspiration and sustenance. The church played an important role in the wider community as well by being a voice calling for change, for openness and justice for all.
With the recent unrest in Burundi, the Unitarian church was targeted by the government; attacked and vandalized. Rev. Fulgence Ndagijimana was kidnapped, tortured, threatened to be killed and jailed. He managed to escape Burundi due to a tremendous pressure from Unitarian Universalists around the world who signed petitions, wrote letters to the government to release him and later helped him leave the country.
Rev. Fulgence Ndagijimana loves the Unitarian faith and plans to continue serving through Unitarian ministry. For the next 10 months, he will be a ministerial Intern with Saskatoon Unitarians. This is but one step in the fellowship process that he has recently embarked on.
He is excited by the opportunity to dive into this cross cultural setting and hopes that his ministry to the world will be enriched by these learning opportunities.
Rev. Fulgence is married to Therese and a proud father of Well Brown Bwigenge.
